The study of the Bible in its historical context - with a focus on the archaeology, history, geography, customs , culture, and even the languages of the ancient Middle East. WE ask what did they understand THEN - the original intent of the Lord - so that we can expand and enrich our understanding NOW and thus become true disciples of Adonai Yeshua as in John 8:31-32.

Poor Rachel, the love of Jacob's life, is supposedly executed by God for stealing the families "gods." Rabbis in Rabbinic Judaism (Judaism after the Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D., claimed that Jacob cursed Rachel, unintentionally but cursed neverthess. Thus, Rachel will be killed by God in childbirth. But, all this rabbinic opinion, made up views, with NO basis in scripture. The very word of God suggests no such claims as the rabbis made.
For example, in the "Chumash," the Orthodox Rabbinic Torah commentary, the rabbis state Jacob cursed Rachel. They go on to say that God will uphold a curse even it its unintentional. Huh? No where in the Bible do we find God's word supporting such a view. No where. Matter of fact thsi view of the rabbis about curses is actually contradicted in God's word. If you recall the one who stole the special cup of Joseph when Joseph was "hidden" from his brothers since he was 2nd in power in Egypt, was supposedly Benjamin. But, this was a set up by Joseph. Then we read about the curse on whoever stole the cup as we read ...
"Behold, the money which we found in the mouth of our sacks we have brought back to you from the land of Canaan. How then could we steal silver or gold from your lord's house? "With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die, and we also will be my lord's slaves."
(Gen 44:8-9)
This is similar to the way Jacob supposedly "cursed" Rachel when we read ...
"Now you have indeed gone away because you longed greatly for your father's house; but why did you steal my gods?" Then Jacob replied to Laban, "Because I was afraid, for I thought that you would take your daughters from me by force. "The one with whom you find your gods shall not live; in the presence of our kinsmen point out what is yours among my belongings and take it for yourself." For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.
(Gen 31:30-32)
Rachel died in childbirth and the rabbis say she was cursed. On top of tha thte rabbis say God will uphold our curses even if they are made by mistake. But, the brothers of Joseph supposedly "curse" Benjamin. It was unintentional since they did not know the whole truth. Yet Benjamin lives! He does not die. God did not uphold an unintetional curse. The rabbis are wrong.
This tradition seeps into the church. Many naive Christians have taken up the beliefs and views of the orthodix rabbis. LIttle do they know or understand what the Bible says and the what the Bible doesn't say. It's like many Christians believe that all God's feasts in the Old Testament are Sabbaths. THEY ARE NOT! Even Jewish sources will tell they are not. Check out this link. An orthodox Jewish site that teaches about the feasts and they are not sabbaths but are treated like sabbaths - https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/708510/jewish/How-to-Celebrate-Yom-Tov.htm
It was the Pharisees who claimed they were. The Pharisees are the ones who were the predecessors of Orthodix Rabbic Judaism. This is one example of how naive unknowledgeable Christians believe a tradtion of he Pharisees and the rabbis and it is Biblically wrong.
One thing we read about in the story of Jacob and his family leaving Haran and traveling to Israel, are camels. There are those who say camels were no domesticated befire 1000 B.C. and thus they ake the claim the Bible is not true but made by those early Hebrew writers. But, real archaeology poves these supposed scholars wrong. Check out the article and videos to help you go deeper in your Bible understanding.
